In the court of Minsk’s Piershamajski district another court proceedings took place on a case of a former political prisoner Uladzimir Jaromenak.

The administrative case against the Young Front activist for alleged violation of the conditions of preventive surveillance was considered at 14.00 by the court of Minsk’s Piershamajski district.

Uladzimir Jaromenak was not present during the proceedings since he had not been informed about it beforehand.

“I simply didn’t go there, I only found out post factum that the case on the violation of the conditions of preventive surveillance was supposed to be considered today. I don’t even know what violations are meant. So I do not know the details of the trial”, - the former political prisoner told to the charter97.org web-site.

The activist noted that the court proceedings happening in his absence is a violation of his rights.

“The fact that the proceedings took place in my absence is a violation of my rights, in particular, the right to defend myself. But until I am handed in a subpoena in the due way, I will not go to court.

When yesterday I went to the criminal and executive inspection, the inspector did not tell me anything about the court proceedings today”, - the activist concluded.

We would remind that the activist of Young Front Uladzimir Jaromenak was arrested in January 2011 as a suspect on the case of the mass disturbances. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison. He served the punishment in a penal colony near Vicebsk. In August 2011 he was pardoned among other people involved in the case. Since them he went to prison several more times for administrative violations.

On 15 March 2013 the court of Minsk’s Piershamajski district prolonged the preventive surveillance over the activist, which had been introduced a year ago.

A person under preventive surveillance must show up at call at the offices of the internal affairs and provide explanations on the issues of the compliance with the demands of preventive surveillance; notify the internal affairs office about a change of the work place and place of residence; only leave the district (town) with the agreement of the internal affairs office. In the meanwhile authorized officers may visit such a person any time. A criminal case may be started in case of three violations under preventive surveillance.
