Political prisoner Pavel Seviarynets, who serves his 3-year term in a special facility in the village of Kuplin for post-election protests, received more than 2,000 letters of support.
Most letters were sent from Belarus, every second one is from Minsk and every tenth is from foreign countries, the BCD press service reports.
More than half of letters are written in Belarusian. Most letters were sent by religious people, Nasha Niva readers and Young Front members.
“I received 1,850 letters during my previous term in 2005-2007. I have more than 2,000 letters now. I can conclude that Belarusian solidarity is growing,” Pavel Seviarynets said. “But the people in prisons – Zmitser Dashkevich, Mikalai Statkevich, Yauheny Baskovich, Eduard Lobau, Mikalai Autukhovich, Ales Bialiatski and others – need it more. I try to answer everyone, so sometimes it takes a few months. I thank Belarusians: this amount of letters impress guards and other inmates and show that Belarus is alive.”
Pavel Seviarynets serves his term in a special facility in the village of Kuplin (the Pruzhany distirct of the Brest region). In May 2011, he was given a 3-year sentence in the criminal case of mass disorders in Minsk on December 19, 2010.
