Vital Rymasheuski: “Elections” Are Just Poorly Produced Performance

The BCD will insist that the Belarusian “parliament” shouldn’t be allowed to international structures.
Today the meeting of Belarusian opposition leaders with the mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, headed by Austrian deputy Gisela Wurst, was held in Minsk. Co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski took part in the meeting among the others, the bchd.info site informs.
“My main message at the meeting is the absence of free and fair elections in Belarus. In addition, new political prisoners get to jail, there is pressure put on civil society activists in the course of the parliamentary election campaign, and the most famous Belarusian musician Liavon Volski is deprived of the right to perform in Belarus, and, in fact, Ales Lahviniets has been denied registration due to his concert. What is happening in the country can only be described as lawlessness,” – the co-chairman of the BCD said.
According to him, the whole campaign is a poorly staged performance, where independent candidates have no chance to break through the system of fraud and to be elected to the parliament.
In addition, Vital Rymasheuski intends to remind PACE representatives that the Belarusian Christian Democrats have been denied registration six times as a political party, and about 15 times – as a public association. “The Christian Democrats were deprived of the right to participate in the election campaign,” – he said.
“The Belarusian authorities want their delegation to be represented in PACE on equal terms. The Belarusian Christian Democracy party and I personally will strive not to allow that, because there are no free and fair elections in Belarus, and thus there are no lawfully elected MPs,” – the co-chairman of the BCD underlined.
