The Minsk court has decided to fine a journalist of Belsat and confiscate the equipment of the TV channel.

The Pershamaiski court of Minsk found journalist Aliaksandr Barazenka guilty of violating the copyright on the Belsat trademark and ordered to fine him 40 basic units – 920 rubles ($ 460), Radio Svaboda reports.

It was also decided to confiscate all the equipment that was taken from Barazenka himself and at the offices of the television channel during the searches on March 31.

"It’s a shameful circus in ugly black suits. We will appeal this decision," – Barazenka commented on the results of the court session.

According to owner of the BELSATplus company Andrei Beliakou, the television channel "violates the interests of his business." The businessman applied to the Supreme Court, but the latter did not satisfy his demands. Then he tried to prohibit the TV channel from using the trademark "Belsat TV". But the Supreme Court considered the claims unreasonable.

The case was reopened by the Presidium of the Supreme Court, and the case was considered by another bench of judges. On September 4, 2014, the court satisfied Beliakou's demands and forbade the TV channel to use the Belsat TV trademark when broadcasting to Belarus and on the website.
