The current party of anti-aircraft missile systems is the fifth in a row for Belarus.

The Almaz - Antey aerospace defense concern has prematurely sent over to the military department of Belarus a batch of Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems, interfax.by reports.

“At the request of the customer, the cars were assembled a month earlier than the contract period. Representatives of the Belarusian side who visited IEMZ Kupol (part of the Almaz-Antei Concern) were satisfied with the high quality of the order,” – the concern’s press service said on Wednesday.

Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Raukou said on February 14, 2018 that our country would buy a battery of Tor-M2 air defense systems in the Russian Federation.

“The Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system – this year we are buying a battery,” – Andrei Raukou said at a press conference in Minsk on Wednesday.

“Tor-M2” is an all-weather air defense system, designed for anti-aircraft and missile defense at a distance of 15 km and at an altitude of 10 km. It has been in service with military air defense (Ground Forces) since 2015. Developed and produced by the Almaz-Antey concern.

According to the press service of the concern, the current party of anti-aircraft missile systems is the fifth in a row for Belarus.

“A delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus Siarhei Simanenka participated in its acceptance procedure. This is another evidence of the fact that the Belarusian Defense Ministry highly appreciates the cooperation with Almaz - Antei,” – the press service informs.

It is noted that the Tor-M2 is the latest modification of the Tor system. A doubled ammunition package, which includes 16 new 9M338K anti-aircraft missiles with an expanded defeat zone, increased shooting accuracy and reduced weight and size parameters are among the most important distinctive features of this modification. The launch interval for rockets from one combat vehicle is two seconds. Thus, as part of the battery, the Tor-M2 air defense system can repel a massive attack of modern air assault weapon in a short period of time, the report says.

“The first order for the delivery of the Tor M2K air defense system from the Ministry of Defense of Belarus was received in 2010, and already in 2011 it was fulfilled,” the statement reads.

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus has previously informed that the contract with Almaz-Antey for the supply of the current party of the air defense systems was concluded at the end of October 2017.

According to the republic’s defense ministry, the first batteries of the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems entered service with the 120th anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces in 2011 and 2012. At the beginning of 2014, the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile division consisting of three batteries was formed in the 120th brigade. At the end of last year, this anti-aircraft missile system entered service with the 740th anti-aircraft missile brigade.
