Stanislau Shushkevich Deserted His Post Of Hramada Head

On Saturday, November 3, the first head of independent Belarus, Stanislau Shushkevich, left the post of head of the opposition Belarusian party Belarusian Social Democratic Assembly. According to dw.com, 33-year-old Siarhei Charechan was elected instead of him to the post of party chairman.
83-year-old Shushkevich told the TASS news agency that he was not leaving politics, but “young and energetic people” should take up leadership positions.
In 1991-1994, Stanislau Shushkevich headed the Supreme Council (parliament) of Belarus. On December 8, 1991, he signed on the part of Belarus the agreement on liquidating the USSR and creating the CIS in Belavezhskaya Pushcha.
