A large construction site. This is how we can describe what has been happening in Brest over the past two years. By the great date - the 1000th anniversary of the city - the local authorities have decided to implement everything that has been dreamed of for decades, the website of the Belsat TV channel writes.

"Big money has been invested, but it was possible to spend much less, using natural materials, such as wood. Unfortunately, our embankment is rolled up in concrete. And in order to feel like a part of nature, you have to move to the other side of the river," - Dzmitry Shymanski, head of the regional development agency Dzedzich, says.

In recent years, new buildings have been erected in Brest, including the prosecutor's office, the court, the tax inspectorate, the Investigative Committee, the Finance Department and only one school and two kindergartens. Another school and a medical center are under construction.

But there are things in the story of the 1000th anniversary that will not be corrected. Photographer Aleh Maleika has been writing the chronicle of Brest with his photographs for more than 10 years. They show the soul of the old part of the city - the pre-war buildings, unique in Belarus. The problem is that the historical Brest is sometimes an obstacle to Brest, which is being built to the 1000th anniversary.
