Tagesspiegel: German Federal Prosecutor's Office Targets the Lukashenka Regime

“In Belarus, Lukashenka is suppressing protests by force, so opposition representatives filed a lawsuit against him in Germany - even before the incident with the forced landing of the plane,” writes the German edition Der Tagesspiegel (translated - inopressa.ru).
“The federal prosecutor’s office is not investigating Aliaksandr Lukashenka on the complaint of Belarusians in exile; however, the General Prosecutor of the Federal Republic of Germany (GBA) has initiated a “monitoring process” against the violence in Belarus. ...
“According to lawyers, in a broad sense, the “monitoring process” is considered a preliminary stage of the official procedure and can prepare future investigations against Minsk civil servants. In addition, later, when Lukashenka is no longer in office, the Prosecutor General's Office will be able to investigate him more quickly," the newspaper notes.
"In this case, we are not talking about the forced landing of the plane at the Minsk airport last weekend. Rather, the Prosecutor General made a decision regarding the lawsuit filed in early May by four Berlin lawyers on behalf of the Belarusian opposition."
“The lawyers represent the interests of ten men who were detained after the protests in summer 2020: “During their arrest,” the applicants write, “they were locked in too cramped cells or paddy wagons, physically abused, threatened, insulted, and otherwise humiliated for several days."
One of the lawyers, Onur Özata, confirmed to Der Tagesspiegel that the federal prosecutor's office in Karlsruhe had initiated a "monitoring process." “The attack on a civil aviation plane a few days ago once again shows that Lukashenka is running a criminal regime,” Özata said.
“The lawyers point out that the federal prosecutor's office can investigate crimes committed in Belarus according to the principle of international law - according to which the country can investigate crimes even if they were committed in another country, and the perpetrator and the victim are not citizens of Germany. The prosecutor's office brought charges against two Syrians, one of whom was convicted in the first instance for crimes that he committed in his homeland, being an agent of the regime in Damascus," the article says.
