Belarusian Ice Hockey Players Will Return From World Cup By Bus

There are no planes from Riga to Minsk anymore.

The Belarusian team, which has already finished competing in the World Cup in Riga, will return home by bus, not by plane, because of the ban on flights in Latvia. This was stated by the head of the organizing committee of the World Cup, Edgars Buntsis, reports TASS.

"Since there has been introduced a ban on flights, the team will travel by bus," said the functionary. The head of the organizing committee specifies that the Belarusian team arrived in Riga by plane.

Buntsis adds that the organizing committee of the World Cup had hoped till the last moment to organize the flight to Minsk for the Belarusian team. To this end, he said, an official request of the Belarusian authorities was necessary, but they had not made such a request.

On May 25, the Latvian government imposed restrictions on flights with Belarus.

The Latvian authorities reacted to the seizure of a plane in the sky over Belarus, flying from Athens to Vilnius. The Belarusian authorities arrested journalist Raman Pratasevich and his girlfriend Sofia Sapega.
