There Are Still About 1,500 Illegal Immigrants in Belarus

More than 600 of them are living in a logistics center.
About 1,500 migrants and refugees (asylum seekers) are still in Belarus, hoping to get to the EU. It is estimated that 628 of them are still living in the logistic center near the Bruzgi checkpoint. The German Federal Foreign Office with reference to the International Organization for Migration provided the data, reports zerkalo.io.
The German Foreign Office called the premises of the trade and logistics center for the migrants “not suitable for long-term residence, as the premises do not meet safety and hygiene criteria.
“There are 1670 people in Poland placed in closed institutions of stay, another 1076 in open ones. It is hard to estimate the situation in such institutions since the Polish government limited the access of the humanitarian workers and media,” the Federal Foreign Office reports.
At least 20 thousand people found their way to the EU countries through Belarus over the past year. 11 thousand of them entered Germany illegally.
Migration crisis...
The situation on the Belarusian-Polish border escalated on November 8 last year. A video appeared on the network at the time. A large convoy of migrants came to the neutral territory near the Bruzgi checkpoint on the Belarusian-Polish border on the video. According to the State Border Committee, their number exceeded two thousand people.
Not reaching 300 meters to the border crossing, the migrants turned into the forest and set up camp there. They lived in the forest on the Belarusian-Polish border for a week, and on November 15, they left the spontaneous camp and gathered at the Bruzgi checkpoint. There were about 3.5 thousand people here according to various estimates.
On November 16, migrants tried to break through the Belarusian-Polish border. They threw stones at the Polish Security Forces. The border guards responded with water cannons and tear gas. There were injured people on both sides because of the clash. Poland and Belarus initiated criminal proceedings.
Later, the Belarusian authorities placed the migrants in a logistics center near the Bruzgi checkpoint. They organized evacuation flights from Minsk to repatriate the migrants, but several hundred migrants as before remain in the center.
