Belarus Increases First Apartment Tax

The Ministry of Taxes and Duties announced the terms of the tax increase and its scope.

Belarus may increase the tax on the first apartment introduced in 2022. Andrei Kavaleuski, the head of the Chief Directorate for Taxation of Individuals of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties, announced it today, on November 2, at a press conference. According to him, the tax could grow by about 10%.

“We are planning a slight increase (of the first apartment tax - Ed.), by about 10%,” Andrei Kavaleuski said. However, the final decision on the increase has not yet been made. According to the representative of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties, the bill on taxation changes will be considered by deputies, as well as the Council of the Republic. They want to raise the tax in 2023.

"We are not considering an option for abolishing this law," Andrei Kavaleuski noted.

Recall that the the first apartment tax was set according to the Tax Code 2022 changes. The tax is 0.1% of the cost of one square meter. The resulting amount must be multiplied by the number of square meters of the apartment. The estimated cost of one square meter of standard buildings - apartments, garages, parking spaces, garden houses, cottages - differs depending on the region. The price is the highest in Minsk.

This year, on average, the new tax in Minsk will be 50 rubles a year, in the regions - 2 times less, the Ministry of Finance predicted earlier.
