Dmitry Oreshkin: Russia Could Face Civil War

Ukraine is deciding the fate of Russian statehood.

Dmitry Oreshkin, the Russian oppositionist, political scientist and geographer, made this forecast in an interview with Natasha Vlaschenko. The interview is available online on the Vlast&Vlashchenko YouTube channel.

According to the expert, after Putin's departure, a military junta may emerge headed by Kadyrov, Prigozhin, Zolotov and other similar characters. It will be a temporary body of power, where all these leaders will eventually begin to "devour" each other in the struggle for autocracy.

But it is quite possible that a direct civil war will begin. “My compatriots studied according to Soviet textbooks, therefore they understand the civil war as a struggle between the insurgent people and the hateful authorities. In fact, the civil war is an infighting between different groups of influence. Junta is the best option for Russia and its neighbours after Putin, and no matter how monstrous it sounds. Strictly speaking, as after Stalin, when this Khrushchev-Malenkov junta arose, the so-called council. This very council gradually began to find out who would be the leader within itself,” Oreshkin explained.

The political scientist also stressed that Ukraine is deciding the fate of Russian statehood. Putin wants to believe that he is at war with the U.S. but, in fact, Russia is at war with Ukraine, and America is just helping. “So, when Putin loses this war (and he will lose it because he is fighting against the entire modern world order), then, most likely, these 17 million square kilometers will be divided somehow,” the expert predicted the collapse of the Russian Federation.
