Why Did Tokayev Humiliate Putin?

It was a complete failure of the Kremlin.

Russian businessman Dmitry Potapenko is convinced that Russia is again in an unpleasant situation because of the words of the President of Kazakhstan about the non-recognition of the LPR / DPR (Donetsk People's Republic and Lugansk People's Republic).

"I believe that Margarita Simonyan categorically misled the discussion. She is an obvious supporter of Putin (the “boss,” as she calls him). You need to have the ability to conduct this kind of dialectic with an understanding of the potential response of the respondent,” Russian businessman Dmitry Potapenko shared on the air of Radio Svaboda his opinion on the scandalous statement of the President of Kazakhstan at the forum in St. Petersburg.

"This is a complete failure. As a result, Russia is in a very unpleasant situation, because this is a public statement, it is now impossible to disavow it. If this question did not exist and there was no answer of this kind, then it would be possible to muddy the water. Now everyone sees each other plain,” Potapenko is convinced.

The host of the program, Mumin Shakirov, asked the businessman's opinion about the behaviour of the President of Russia during the speech of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

"It was quite clear. Unofficial footage shows that his posture and head tilt have changed. Obviously, as a normal politician who is able to control the text, he did not say something like “What a hell are you talking about, toad?!”, but a mask fell on Vladimir Putin’s face, his jaws swelled, and he turned in the other direction. So, he completely gave the game away. He radically changed the topic of the speech.

How can Putin take revenge? Can Moscow somehow influence the economic situation in Kazakhstan?

"Technically, yes, initially, but it will be extremely unprofitable for Russia, because it will further increase Kazakhstan's relations with China. Kazakhstan has very good relations with China. China will increase investment in Kazakhstan and that's it. I do not rule out that it is a conscious, thoughtful policy of Kazakhstan. I believe that this is simply an orientation towards a much more powerful, many times larger player in terms of investment, and technology comes first. China is a high-tech state. Why should Kazakhstan interact with a simple resource state?" Potapenko said.

Recall that during the discussion between the Presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum Tokayev said:

“We do not recognize either Taiwan, or Kosovo, or South Ossetia, or Abkhazia." Apparently, this principle will also be applied to quasi-state territories, which, in our opinion, are Donetsk and Luhansk.
