Information about internal squabbles in the Kremlin is emerging with increasing frequency.
As Russia's invasion of Ukraine fails, reports of internal political gamesmanship in the Kremlin and attempts to overthrow Vladimir Putin are becoming more common.
This is reported by newsweek.com.
The leader of the aggressor country has often been the subject of speculation, whether about his alleged wealth, family connections or health problems. But this week several English-language publications, including the Mirror and the Daily Mail, published articles claiming that there had been an assassination attempt on Putin as his motorcade was driving through Moscow.
The story was reported by the SVR General telegram channel: it claimed that Putin, on the advice of his security service, sometimes travels in a decoy convoy of five armoured personnel carriers. The source also said that a few miles from his home, the first escort car was blocked by an ambulance, which was bypassed by the second car without stopping.
Then the third car, in which Putin was allegedly in, received a "heavy blow" under the front left wheel, "and then heavy smoke". But that was not all: according to the source, only a small group of people from the president's security service were aware of the president's travels in the motorcade and that three of them "disappeared".
The source added that information about the incident was "classified" and that the head of presidential security and several others "have been dismissed and are in custody". And although there is no reliable or verified information in the public domain confirming the alleged assassination attempt on Putin's life, the Telegram feed's message had gathered more than 300,000 views as of the morning of September 15 and was published in British newspapers, including The Mirror.
