People In Ivano-Frankivsk Region Bid Farewell To Belarusian Who Died For Freedom Of Ukraine

Local residents greeted the funeral cortege on their knees.

In the city of Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk region, on Saturday, October 21, they bid farewell to a Belarusian who fought in the Defence Intelligence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the call sign Bacchus, Radio Svaboda reported.

Bacchus died on October 7 in the Bakhmut direction. He was buried under two flags — the state Ukrainian and the Belarusian national white-red-white.

On the day of the funeral, mourning was declared in the city. Local residents came to say goodbye to the Belarusian. Traditionally, the townspeople greeted the funeral cortege on the streets on their knees.

The funeral service for the fallen soldier was held in the Cathedral of the Holy Archangel Michael.

“Let the good, bright memory of the Hero remain forever in the memory of his relatives, brothers-in-arms and everyone who knew, loved and respected him. Long live Belarus! Glory to Ukraine! The glory of the courageous Hero of two nations will live forever!” says a message on the cathedral’s official Facebook page.

The Belarusian was buried on the Walk of Fame, created at the city cemetery specifically for the burial of soldiers who gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine. On his grave there is a cross with his call sign and date of death.

According to the latest data, more than 22 Belarusians have already died defending Ukraine.
