Peskov's reaction only added to the resonance.
The other day, the media spread the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin had suffered a cardiac arrest over the weekend. Last night a major Russian telegram channel, SVR General, reported that Putin had died. The Kremlin has denied the rumours, but Peskov's comments only serve to fuel the rumours.
The Daily Star writes about it.
On Tuesday, press secretary Dmitry Peskov called it "fake news" and ridiculed the claim that Putin uses doubles for public appearances.
The foreign publication's journalists, citing Russian telegram channels, reported that Putin suffered a "cardiac arrest" at his Moscow residence on Sunday night. The Kremlin boss was said to have been found lying on the floor next to an overturned table with food and drink, and then taken to an adjacent room with medical equipment where he was given CPR.
"The doctors administered CPR after determining that the president had suffered a cardiac arrest. Assistance was provided in time, the heart was started and Putin regained consciousness," the report said.
Telegram channels did not provide hard evidence for such claims. No hard evidence for such claims has been provided by the wire services.
Dr Nahod A. Ali, M.D., M.P.H., suggested in a comment to the Daily Star that Putin could die much earlier than expected.
"A person in his 70s who has these health problems may have a higher risk of complications, which will likely result in a much shorter life expectancy compared to others of the same age who don't have concerns," he said.
