Shells are exploding on the territory of a military unit in Volgograd region.

On the night of November 16, a heavy fire broke out at a facility of the Russian Ministry of Defence in Volgograd Region. Before that, loud explosions were heard on the territory of the military unit.

We are talking about a military facility located two kilometres from the village of Kotluban. This is reported by the Russian media.

According to the media, local residents heard the sounds of explosions. The fire started around 1:00 am.

Volgograd Region Governor Andrei Bocharov said that the fire was promptly localised and extinguished. The official also claims that there are "no casualties or damage to civilian facilities."

"There was a fire on the territory of one of the military units near the village of Kotluban. The fire was promptly localised and extinguished by the forces of the region's firefighting service, the Emergencies Ministry and the Ministry of Defence. There were no casualties or damage to civilian objects. The circumstances of the fire are being clarified," the official said.

Other Russian media outlets said the emergency occurred at an ammunition depot. It is also reported that sounds of detonation could be heard during the fire. At the same time, it is known that the local authorities do not intend to evacuate the local population yet. However, several residents of the nearest village chose to leave their place of residence on their own.
