Roman Bessmertny: Moscow Has Full Over Belarusian Army

There is no need to deceive yourself.
Ukrainian diplomat Roman Bessmertny is convinced that the Belarusian army is controlled by Moscow. However, according to him, it is not possible to use these forces against Ukraine for two reasons.
The leader of Belarus, Aliaksandr Lukashenka, does not control the security agencies in the country and he is the Kremlin's puppet. Ukrainian politician and diplomat Roman Bessmertny spoke about this in a commentary to the Focus news publisher on November 1.
“What control does Lukashenka exercise? The territorial defence, which, oddly enough, has been created in Belarus. It’s not a real force, but he controls it. He controls neither the Ministry of Defence nor the General Staff. He controls the Investigative Committee, but not the KGB and intelligence,” the expert said.
According to the politician, talking about Lukashenka’s influence on decision-making regarding the Belarusian troops is “deceiving yourself.” The Belarusian army is completely controlled by Russia.
“Lukashenka is totally dependent. He is a puppet of the Kremlin Fuhrer,” Bessmertny emphasized.
He explained that Moscow controls most of the security forces in Belarus. The only exceptions are “separate pieces”.
Why has Belarus still not taken part in the war?
The expert recalled that in Belarus the leadership responsible for mobilizing the population has already been dismissed twice. According to him, the goal was to call manpower for private armies and increase the number of these troops.
“The Belarusian army, as they say, is just cannon fodder in the current conditions. It is not able to carry out operations within current warfare. Especially what concerns the theatre of war in Ukraine,” Bessmertny explained.
He noted that this does not make it possible to throw Belarusian forces into battle. In addition, the situation is also influenced by the mood within the country. The politician assured that the majority of Belarusians are against military operations in Ukraine. At the same time, he urged not to forget that part of the population still supports Putin’s actions.
