Belarusian Artist Henadz Drazdou’s Health Deteriorated Greatly In Prison

They are keeping artist Henadz Drazdou, a 64-year-old political prisoner, in a punishment cell all the time. His health condition has deteriorated greatly in dungeons. Pozirk reports this.

According to the publication’s source, the political prisoner is forced to be in a punishment cell again and again.

“[They put him] in the punishment cell again and again, he freezes out, he has high blood pressure, but they don’t give him pills,” the source said. The sources added that “the artist is in a critical condition, he’s even making a will.”

Henadz Drazdou is the former head of the liquidated Pahonia creative association from the Belarusian Union of Artists.

He was arrested in August 2022 and for 15 days. After his arrest, he was not released. They initiated a criminal case against him for participating in protests in 2020. (Article 342 of the Criminal Code). Subsequently, the charge was reclassified as “assistance in extremist activities” (Part 1 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code).

On May 4, 2023, the Minsk City Court sentenced the political prisoner to three years in prison. According to human rights activists, the artist is serving time in Mahiliou prison #4.
