The source where the Belarusians find the strength to go forward in the conditions of Orwellian reality.

This autumn one of the oldest informational and political sites of the Belarusian Internet "Charter'97" celebrated its 25th anniversary.

On September 11, 1998 the first visitors came to Charter'97.org. Since then, for 25 years "Charter'97" has been in the very centre of the most important events for Belarus, being one of the first to inform its readers daily of the truth about what is happening in the country.

Belarusians congratulate Charter97.org on its anniversary:

"I am very grateful to my friend who introduced me to Charter back in 2003! Thank you for not being hesitant, unlike other so-called "democratic media", to call things by their real names. Thank you for not "playing journalism", not playing "give-and-take", not pretending that "everything is fine, beautiful Marquise", not bowing down, but doing your work honestly and "to last". Just thank you for the truth. And for being with us all these years!"

"Sometimes only "Charter" gives strength to live for the sake of the bright future of our children and country. Thank you! It is very sad that many of the signatories of the Charter are no longer alive through the fault of the Shklou freak. And it is very bad that there is no criminal case and arrest warrant for him yet. I believe only the Charter. And all these bloggers, like Latushka, Tsikhanouskaya, Coordinating Council and others - it's a cover for bad deeds."

"I read the biography of our Charter'97, looked at the photo..... It's my biography too, my whole youth was spent with this wonderful site. We kept apace with each other, and "Charter'97" gave me strength to go forward in this Orwellian reality. It was and still is the only outlet, so close and dear to me."

"Happy anniversary, dear Charter'97! Thanks to you we receive reliable information and can express our attitude to the current events in comments. No matter how rampant the junta is, the victory will be ours! Long live Belarus!!!"

"There are millions of us 'charters'.

"Now the 'CHARTER' is like the ones we listened to in the late 7080s: Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, BBC with Seva Novgorodtsev on our Belarusian receivers and VEF. Only there we could hear the whole truth about our life in the USSR."

"Indeed, those were unforgettable times. The Charter went to the masses and carried the words of truth. Now we keeping apace with Charter'97 and making things happen. And things may be quite different, maybe not the loudest, but if we started to greet each other and speak in our native language, it is already the result of our victory over darkness," our readers wrote.
