There was no information from him for almost three weeks.

Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, with whom there was no contact for almost three weeks, was found in a colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Russian Federation. Former director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Ivan Zhdanov reported this on X social network.

Navalny was transferred to Colony #3 “Polar Wolf” in the village of Kharp. Today his lawyer met with him.

“Alexei Navalny has been found. He is in the penal colony #3 “Polar Wolf” in Kharp, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug — one of the northernmost and most remote colonies in general. The conditions there are harsh, with a special regime in the permafrost zone. It’s very difficult to get there, and there are no letter delivery systems for FSIN-letter or Zonatelecom,” Zhdanov wrote.

Communication with Navalny, who was in a colony in the Vladimir region, was lost on December 6.

Alexei Navalny was sent to a colony by the Russian authorities in February 2021 after he was declared guilty of fraud in the so-called “Yves Rocher case.” Then the politician was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison. In March 2022, Navalny was also found guilty of fraud, and then of insulting a judge, and was sentenced to 9 years in a reinforced-security colony (for a combination of crimes).

In August 2023, Alexei Navalny was sentenced by the Moscow City Court to 19 years in prison in a special regime colony in the case of creating an “extremist community.” According to the authorities, such a community was the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which he founded.

On December 1, Navalny announced that another criminal case had been opened against him — under the article of vandalism.
