Lukashenka Bans Photographing Ballots At Elections

The dictator signed the law on changing the Electoral Code of Belarus.

On Thursday, February 16, usurper Aliaksandr Lukashenka signed a law on changing the Electoral Code, his press service writes.

It is reported that the document provides for adjustments to the norms of the Electoral Code as a whole, taking into account the updated Constitution of Belarus, as well as law enforcement practice.

Thus, the law optimizes the system of election commissions, as well as the procedure for the formation of electoral districts in Belarus. In addition, additional requirements are introduced for candidates for “deputies”. Now they cannot have a foreign citizenship, a Pole's card or other similar documents. Also in Belarus, the voter turnout threshold was canceled in order to recognize the elections to the “house of representatives” as valid.

The law also regulated certain issues of electing delegates to the “All-Belarusian People's Assembly” from the local councils of “deputies” and civil society.

Also, photography and video filming of a filled-out ballot was banned at the legislative level in Belarus. And besides, they changed the time of early voting: setting the period from 12.00 to 7 pm without a break. Previously, early voting began at 10 am and lasted until 7 pm with a two-hour break from 2 to 4 pm.
