Russians Fell Into Tactical Trap In Bakhmut

For more than 9 months, the Russian invaders have been trying to capture Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. As a result, the invaders even fell into a tactical trap on this frontline.
Security expert Ivan Varchenko spoke about this on the air of Channel 24. According to him, in Bakhmut, the Russians ended the history of Wagner PMC and Russian airborne assault units.
It seemed to the invaders that their “big offensive” had begun
Varchenko noted that at the end of 2022, when the Russian army was practically exhausted both morally and physically, they were ready to switch to an operational pause, and fell into a psychological and operational trap near Bakhmut.
“They lost the Kherson and Kharkiv regions. They planned to rest in the winter, and in the spring to rush into battle. But suddenly it turned out that on New Year's Eve they received little success. They managed to take the city of Soledar, which before the war had 10 thousand people. They thought that their “big offensive” had begun, the expert recalled.
The security expert emphasized that the invaders were exhausted, but went on the offensive, which they planned to launch three months later.
“They have been in the format “we are about to take Bakhmut” for three to four months. Exhausted, they rushed into a large offensive operation, which they planned in three months. It seemed to them that they had found Ukraine’s weak spot,” Varchenko said.
He added that in Bakhmut, the Russians finished the history of Wagner PMC and Russian airborne assault units.
The unification of Russians has no prospects
British intelligence reported that in Bakhmut, regular Russian military men improved their interaction with the Wagnerites. Ivan Varchenko noted that such a union of the occupiers can happen because the invaders want to survive.
The security expert is convinced that such interaction has no prospects, since the leaders of the groups pursue completely different strategic goals.
“Wagnerites are mercenaries who are here today, and tomorrow their remnants will go to another place to earn money. The Russian Armed Forces do not have such a field for maneuvers. Therefore, they were very interested in taking over PMCs and forcing them to act in accordance with common scenarios,” Varchenko explained.
The Russians regrouped their forces at Bakhmut
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar said that only in Bakhmut, Russians daily carry out 40 to 50 assaults and more than 500 shellings. In their desire to capture the fortress city, the invaders regrouped their forces and means in the Bakhmut direction. They also opted for the scorched earth tactics.
She stressed that since the enemy usually loses to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in street battles, they choose the tactics of total destruction of buildings and structures, simply leveling the city to the ground. The enemy seeks to deprive our defenders of the opportunity to hold positions in the city.
However, despite their efforts, the enemy does not reach his goal. The Deputy Minister of Defense stressed that the fighting for the city continues, and the situation, although difficult, is controlled by the defenders of Ukraine.
