EU Reacts To Placing Of Russia’s Nuclear Weapons In Belarus

Brussels called the Kremlin's actions another provocation.

The agreement between Russia and Belarus on the deployment of non-strategic nuclear weapons in our country "does not contribute to de-escalation". This statement was made by the representative of the EU Foreign Service, Peter Stano, during a briefing on May 25.

“This is not a step towards de-escalation. This is what only increases the tension, which can also be seen in the context of Russia’s illegal aggression and Belarusian cooperation and collaboration in this. This is a further escalation and further provocation. The European Union, of course, will follow very closely how this is implemented and we will be reacting as appropriate,” Mr Stano said.

Recall, on May 25, the Defense Ministers of Belarus and Russia signed papers on procedures for keeping Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility in Belarus.
