Zolotov has explained why Prigozhin could not be stopped all the way to the Moscow suburbs.
The Wagner PMC was advancing without serious resistance across Russia because of the concentration of forces near Moscow, Rosgvardia head Viktor Zolotov said, RBC reports.
"We have concentrated all the fists, all the forces on the outskirts of Moscow. Because if we scattered the groups, they would have gone through like a knife through butter," he said.
Zolotov added that "it was necessary to concentrate the fist to repel," and President Vladimir Putin had no doubts about stopping the attempted insurgency, and he was in constant contact with him: "There was talk of a special operation to protect Moscow and the approaches to Moscow," he said.
As reported by Charter97.org, the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced the beginning of a military coup. On June 24, the troops of the Wagner PMC took Rostov-on-Don and marched through Rostov, Voronezh and Lipetsk regions of the Russian Federation. Wagner's convoys with armoured vehicles entered Moscow Region and came within 200km of Moscow, after which Prigozhin announced the turn around of his army. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Prigozhin had been cleared of criminal charges of sedition and would now live in Belarus.
