A prayer for Belarus was sung near the residence of Pope Francis.
"Pray for you, Belarus," was heard in St. Peter's Square. The Belarusian delegation, which brought copies of the icons of the Mother of God revered in Belarus to the Vatican, included the choir of St. Simeon and St. Helen Cathedral in Minsk, "The Voice of the Soul," reports the Belarusian service of the Vatican Radio.
The choir sang several multi-voiced Belarusian hymns of the Virgin Mary, giving the audience with the pontiff a more solemn character.
When the Pope approached the Belarusian pilgrims, the choir sang Plurimos annos in his honour and wished him long life.
Pope Francis blessed copies of the icons and also received a copy of the icon of the Mother of God of Budslau.
We remind you that as a result of a mysterious fire that occurred in the Red Cathedral in Minsk on September 26, the shrine was closed and the faithful were even forbidden to pray near it. The church was disconnected from all communications. Minsk City Executive Committee stated that the owner of the building, "Minskaya Spadchyna", could not meet its contractual obligations and demanded the religious community to vacate the building from the movable property to carry out repair and restoration works.
Now the parish services are held in the cathedral church.
