Ales Bialiatski’s ‘Godparent’ Demanded To Introduce Multiple Comprehensive Against Lukashenka And His Entourage

The deputy head of the European Parliament made a strong statement.

Vice-President of the European Parliament Nikola Beer recorded an appeal on the second anniversary of the arrest of Nobel Prize Winner Ales Bialiatski and his associates in the Viasna HRC, Valiantsin Stefanovich and Uladzimir Labkovich.

Nicola Beer is the "godmother" of Ales Bialiatski in the European Parliament.

“For two years, Nobel Prize winner Ales Bialiatski has been imprisoned as a political prisoner of Lukashenka's puppet regime in inhuman conditions. For two years, he has been systematically deprived of contact with his wife, his family and lawyers. He was sentenced to 10 years in a show trial in March for campaigning for freedom and human rights,” she said.

Nicola Beer added that she had the opportunity to meet with Ales Bialiatski's wife, Natallia Pinchuk, who spoke about the conditions of detention of her husband and other political prisoners, and the lack of contact with him for months. The Vice-President of the European Parliament called this situation unacceptable.

“Our demands on the international community are clear. First, Ales and other political prisoners should have immediate access to comprehensive medical care from trusted doctors, as well as access to their lawyers and families. Secondly, the opening of the Belarusian people's embassies of the democratic opposition in the EU countries should be accelerated. Thirdly, the European Union and the international community should finally introduce comprehensive sanctions against Belarus, Lukashenka and his entourage,” she said.

“Our appeal is clear – we will not leave you and will resolutely stay by your side,” Nicola Beer added.
