Switzerland Joins Latest EU Sanctions Package Against Lukashenka

The decision was made due to the participation of the regime in military aggression against Ukraine.
Switzerland has decided to adopt further sanctions against Belarus in order to be in line with the latest restrictive measures of the European Union, adopted on August 3. The government of the country published a message online.
This decision was taken "in view of Belarus's continued involvement in Russia's ongoing military aggression against Ukraine."
“These measures bring the sanctions against Belarus more closely into line with the sanctions imposed against Russia. They include an export ban on goods and technology for use in the aviation and space industry. Besides aviation and space industry vehicles, the list of goods includes turbojets, turbo propellers and rubber tyres. For aviation and space industry items that are also frequently used in the medical sector, exemptions apply subject to authorisation,” the message reads.
The measures also extend the list of goods which “contribute to Belarus's military and technological enhancement”.
“Specifically, where there was previously an exemption with regard to the prohibition of exports necessary to ensure the cyber and information security of persons and companies in Belarus, a license will now be required. By adopting this measure, the Federal Council seeks to ensure that no strategic goods reach Belarus in circumvention of the rules,” the country’s government noted.
Earlier in August, the Swiss government imposed sanctions on 38 individuals and three legal entities in Belarus.
Recall, on August 3, the European Union imposed new sanctions against Belarus - a ban on the export of goods and technologies that contribute to the country's military improvement, as well as firearms and ammunition. Also, Belarusian prosecutors, judges, former and current employees of the colonies, propagandists - a total of 38 people, as well as three enterprises - the Belneftekhim concern, the OJSC "BSW - management company of "BMC" holding" and OJSC Minsk Electrotechnical Plant.
North Macedonia, Albania, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have also joined the sanctions imposed by the EU. Additionally, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom announced new sanctions against the Belarusian authorities in August.
