At the same time, the politician did not submit to the Seimas a bill on the unification of restrictions for Belarusians and Russians.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda spoke in favor of revising the rules for granting residence permits in the country to citizens of Belarus.
It is reported by European Pravda.
As noted, Nausėda submitted the issue of revising the rules for granting a residence permit for consideration by the autumn session of the Seimas.
The President of Lithuania noted that for the safety of Lithuanian residents, it is necessary to review the procedure in which Belarusian citizens have more opportunities compared to Russian citizens to enter Lithuania and obtain a temporary residence permit in the country.
“I hope that they will return to the legal status of the movement of citizens of Belarus and Russia across our border, the status of their residence permit in Lithuania. Today we live in a tense atmosphere, when we have to be as prepared as possible for probable provocations, attempts to destabilize our internal political situation. It is really fragile. We must make every effort so that people in our country can live safely,” Nausėda said.
However, among the drafts submitted by him for the autumn session, there are no amendments concerning the unification of the rules for citizens of Russia and Belarus.
This is reported by LRT with a reference to BNS.
“Among the drafts submitted by him for the autumn session, there are no amendments regarding the unification of the rules for citizens of Russia and Belarus,” the material says.
Among the issues that Nausėda is going to submit to parliamentarians are bills related to tax benefits for working parents, the possibility of returning part of the pension funds that are accumulated in private funds, and increasing the salaries of prosecutors. The Seimas will begin its autumn session on 10 September.
In spring, the Seimas of Lithuania considered a law, the provisions of which were to replace the measures previously provided for by the state of emergency at the border. During the discussion, it was proposed to equalize the restrictions for Russians and Belarusians. The Seimas did not support this version of the project. President Gitanas Nausėda vetoed the law, expecting MPs to equalize restrictions on citizens of the two countries, but the Seimas overrode his veto.
In the summer, after PMC Wagner began moving to Belarus, Nausėda and a number of Lithuanian politicians said that there was a need to return to the draft law, which would impose the same restrictions on Belarusian citizens as on Russians. It was expected that the issue would again be considered at the autumn session of the Seimas.
