IMF Chief Lagarde warns of potential risks to Europe with Trump's possible return.
The Head of the European Central Bank commented on the events in the United States.
The likely re-election of former US President Donald Trump will pose a threat to Europe. Head of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde warned about this in an interview with France 2 TV channel.
“If we want to learn from history, that is, from the way he led the first four years of his mandate, then this is clearly a threat,” Lagarde said.
She offered a look at Trump's proposed policies on trade tariffs, commitment to NATO and combating climate change.
“In at least these three areas, American interests have been inconsistent with European interests in the past,” said the head of the European Central Bank.
At the same time, Lagarde added that she does not believe that Trump’s re-election will leave Europe alone in its support for Ukraine.
“There are a number of members of the US Congress who are deeply hostile to the brutal war that Russia has waged against Ukraine, and who will continue to fund and support Ukraine,” Lagarde said.
