They were considered a threat to national security.
Last year, 27 citizens of Belarus were denied residence permits in Poland because of a threat to national security. This is stated in the response, which the publication Hrodna.life received from the spokesman of the Polish Office for Foreigners, Jakub Dudziak.
Another 535 citizens of other countries were refused residence permits in 2023 for the same reasons.
In his response to Hrodna.life's enquiry, Jakub Dudziak reminded that, in accordance with the provisions of the Aliens Act, a permanent residence permit is withdrawn from a foreigner if:
it is required for reasons of defence or state, public security and order;
the interests of Poland require it;
during the proceedings for the granting of the permit, he/she submitted an application for the permit containing false personal data or false information, attached documents containing such data or provided false testimony, forged, falsified a document in order to use it as genuine;
the holder of a residence permit has been sentenced by a court for a deliberate offence to imprisonment for at least three years;
left the territory of Poland for a period exceeding six years.
After deprivation of the residence permit, the foreigner has 30 days to leave Poland voluntarily. After that, deportation proceedings begin - e.g. by the Border Guard Service. At the same time, however, you may be granted a permit for "tolerated stay" or "for humanitarian reasons" in a situation of a potential threat to the foreigner's safety in the home country. You can appeal against their non-issuance.
You can also apply for international protection in Poland if you fear for your safety in your home country, including persecution because of your views or political or social activities.
