The Il-20M was flying with its navigation switched off.
A Russian military aircraft has entered NATO airspace, after which Germany brought its fighter jets into the air and escorted it. This was reported in the German Air Force.
"The Il-20M military aircraft was flying without a transponder signal," the report said.
According to the German Air Force, the military aircraft was detected in the international airspace near Rügen. But after being escorted by fighter jets it returned to the east.
It should be noted that during 2023, NATO air forces in Europe conducted more than 300 sorties to intercept Russian military planes that approached the Alliance's airspace. Most of these interceptions took place over the Baltic Sea.
