Elevated radon levels are dangerous.
The Scientific and Practical Center for Hygiene reported on monitoring radon levels in residential premises. Excess of its content was detected in 72 buildings out of 3,944 surveyed.
“Radon is 40-70% of the radiation dose to the population from all natural and man-made sources of ionizing radiation. Increased radon levels increase the risk of lung cancer and leukemia in children,” noted the Hygiene Research and Production Center.
Also, as part of the monitoring, 22 water samples were taken in rural areas. No excess of radon content standards was detected in them.
