Russian troops attacked Kharkiv and the region with Shahed-type kamikaze drones in the evening of Friday, February 9. Civilian infrastructure came under enemy attack. The Russians hit a gas station in the regional center, a strong fire broke out, and at least 15 private houses burned down.
As a result of the attacks, there were casualties; it is also known that seven people died, including three children, the youngest child was only six months old. Head of the Kharkiv regional military administration Oleh Syniehubov spoke about the consequences of the enemy strike.
“As a result of an attack by enemy drones in Kharkiv, five people were killed. The personal data of the deceased are being established, preliminary among them are two children,” he wrote in the morning of February 10.
But after a few minutes, Syniehubov clarified that the number of victims had increased.
“Unfortunately, the number of deaths as a result of the invaders’ strikes on Kharkiv has increased to seven. Among them are three children: 7, 4 years old and an infant about 6 months old,” wrote the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration.
The city mayor, Ihor Terekhov, was the first to report the enemy attack on Kharkiv the night before. He reported explosions in the city on his Telegram channel at about 10:40 pm.
“Kharkiv is under enemy attacks. There are a series of explosions in the city. Shaheds. Civil infrastructure is under attack,” Terekhov wrote.
Later, Terekhov said that the Russians hit the gas station with “Shaheds.” As a result of this hit, fuel spilled and 14 private residential buildings caught fire. The fire area is 3,700 square meters.
“50 Kharkiv residents were evacuated, including two children. The State Emergency Service continues to fight the fire and search for the injured people,” the city mayor said.
Footage was published online showing a fire after the shelling in Kharkiv.
As a result of the Russian attack, one person received 40% burns to his body and is in hospital. 4 people were rescued, 50 were evacuated. The number of victims may increase, says head of the regional prosecutor's office Oleksandr Filchakov.
At least 15 houses burned down, he said.
“The Russian military previously launched a Shahed-type UAV from the territory of the Belgorod region. Three drones hit the Nemyshlyansky district of Kharkiv. As a result, a critical infrastructure facility was destroyed. There was a large amount of fuel there, which is why the consequences of the fire were so terrible,” Filchakov said.
Head of the Kharkiv regional military administration Oleh Syniehubov also noted that the settlement of Velykyi Burluk also came under enemy attack. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties. The occupiers hit a civilian facility — a cafe.
