The press secretary of Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, refused to comment on reports of the destruction of the Russian large landing ship Caesar Kunikov.
The Russian news agency RIA Novosti writes about this.
“Today information appeared that one of the Russian ships was attacked in the Black Sea. How can you comment on this situation and how does the Kremlin see it? Is there any global danger for the Russian fleet, taking into account the fact that, after all, the Ukrainian fleet is not as powerful as the Russian one? Why does this still happen, the loss of ships?” they asked Peskov.
However, the Kremlin speaker responded by saying that he could not say anything and suggested focusing on the statements of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“This is all directly related to the progress of the “special military operation.” Accordingly, this is the exclusive prerogative of the Ministry of Defense. I suggest you rely on the statements of our military colleagues. I can’t say anything about this,” Peskov said.
The large landing ship Caesar Kunikov was destroyed on the night of February 14 during an operation by the Defense Intelligence and Armed Forces of Ukraine. The ship was hit by Ukrainian-made Magura V5 drones near occupied Alupka. According to scouts, it received critical holes on the left side and began to sink.
The Ukrainian Navy noted that there could have been about 90 Russian sailors on board the destroyed ship, therefore, “personnel losses must be significant.”
The Caesar Kunikov is a large landing ship of Project 775, which participated in the KFOR operation in Kosovo in 1999, in the war against Georgia and provided support to the Syrian army.
