South Korea Calls In Russian Ambassador To Lodge Complaints

The reason became known.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Georgy Zinoviev to file a complaint because of the Kremlin's criticism of the South Korean president, who in his statement condemned the DPRK's desire to obtain a nuclear arsenal and trade weapons with Russia.

Reuters reported.

"Deputy Minister Chung said that it was very regrettable that Russia ignored the truth and unconditionally protected North Korea while criticizing the leader's remarks in extremely rude language, and emphasized that this would only worsen Korea-Russia relations," the agency cites the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

According to Reuters, on January 31, at a meeting of representatives of defence and security officials, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol condemned the DPRK's development of nuclear weapons to support the totalitarian regime "while blatantly ignoring international law and U.N. Security Council resolutions by trading arms with Russia."

The next day, Russian Foreign Ministry speaker Maria Zakharova called Yoon's remarks "frankly biased."

At the end of December, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the possibility of "retaliatory measures" after South Korea expanded the sanctions list of goods that cannot be exported to the Russian Federation without special permission.
