Ukraine carried out one of the most successful attacks.
During one of the most massive drone attacks on military airfields in the Russian Federation, which occurred on the night of Friday, April 5, at least 11 Russian aircraft were damaged. This is reported by some Ukrainian media, citing sources in the GUR (Ukrainian Defence Intelligence), Deutsche Welle reports.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the GUR attacked three airfields in the Russian Federation tonight – near Engels in the Saratov region, in Yeysk (Krasnodar Territory) and in the Kursk region. At the Engels-2 airfield, three Tu-95MS strategic bombers were probably damaged significantly, and seven Russian soldiers were also killed as a result of the attack, a source in the department told the publication. In Yeysk, according to the GUR preliminary data, two Su-25 attack aircraft were destroyed and four soldiers were killed. The results of the attack on the airfield near Kursk were not reported.
On the same night in the Russian Federation, drones attacked an airfield in Morozovsk, Rostov region. According to media reports, the attack was carried out by the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine). A source of Ukrayinska Pravda in the department reported that at least six aircraft were destroyed as a result. Hromadske previously wrote that Su-24, Su-24M and Su-34 bombers are located at this airfield.
Ukraine has carried out one of the most massive drone attacks
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation does not confirm the fact of damage to aircraft and does not give details of the night attack of drones. The agency only stated that on the night of April 5, 53 drones were shot down over the territory of the Russian Federation - 44 UAVs over the Rostov region, six UAVs over the Krasnodar region and one UAV each in the Saratov, Kursk and Belgorod regions. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation describes all these attacks as "suppressed".
Even with such official data, the drone attack on the night of April 5 can be called one of the most massive Ukrainian attacks on military facilities in Russia since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, only in March there were at least two attacks of comparable scale in the Russian Federation. The purpose of one of them, according to media reports, was an aircraft factory in Taganrog in the Rostov region, where, among other things, an A-50 radar reconnaissance aircraft damaged at an airfield in Belarus in 2023 is being repaired. During another such attack, most of the drones were shot down in the Voronezh region.
