Putin announced the creation of a certain sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine, but he set up all the conditions for it to arise on the territory of the Russian Federation
On June 28, 2022, in an interview with Ukrinform, I voiced my opinion on the creation of a demilitarized buffer zone on the border with Russia, precisely on their side, 50 kilometers deep. In this zone, the deployment of military units, heavy equipment, aviation, ammunition depots and fuel and lubricants would be prohibited. Only the presence of law enforcement agencies and border troops in lightly armored vehicles.
This zone can be reached during peace negotiations on the issue of Moscow's capitulation.
And now, this idea is being discussed at a high level, and this is encouraging. After all, the idea of demilitarizing the Russian border is important for ensuring the future security of Ukraine for generations to come!
Why exactly 50 kilometers?
Everything is extremely simple — this is the optimal depth to ensure fire control with long-range and high-precision artillery.
In the future, it will be necessary to create echeloned lines of fire destruction on the border with the Russian Federation. Considering the means we currently have, these are the M777, a wide range of 155-mm self-propelled guns, as well as the M270 and M142.
In fact, using these means, it is possible to create several lines of destruction of targets up to 50 kilometers deep. From the depths of Ukraine, this zone can be covered in the future by tactical missiles of 300/500 km.
To create such a buffer zone, it will not even be necessary to enter the territory of Russia. Its control can be carried out remotely, taking into account the capabilities of each artillery echelon, near, medium and long.
Then, with all the relevance of this idea, I noted at least two of its shortcomings.
The first is the lack of agreement from our partners on the issue of striking Russian territory with Western weapons.
The second is that even with a positive solution to the first point, there is not yet a sufficient number of artillery systems to completely close the border with Russia.
Well, the first problem has been solved, so to speak. The second problem has its time, the main thing is to start.
Vladimir Putin, a war criminal wanted by the ICC and also Russian President, has repeatedly announced the creation of a certain sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine, but he has created all the conditions for the sanitary zone to emerge on the territory of Russia itself.
