Shift Workers In Russia Began To Be Massively Delayed In Their Salaries

The situation is critical.

Russians working on a rotational basis have begun to experience wage delays and non-payment of wages. Such cases in 2025 were recorded in the Sverdlovsk and Kaliningrad regions, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Primorye, Chukotka and other regions, write "Izvestia".

So, 200 shift workers contracted with LLC "HC Novolex" were virtually blocked at the Volkovskoye field in Nizhny Tagil due to non-payment of salaries for two months. A similar problem arose at the site of OOO SKK (Construction and Service Company) in Tarko-Sale, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. Before that, 300 shift workers at the Tanalau field in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai also complained that they were left without payments and could not return home. Workers at Primorskaya TPP earlier had to take out loans to leave their rotations due to non-payment of wages.

"The situation in the rotational sphere is very difficult," said public activist Natalya Demenko, who deals with the problems of rotational workers. According to her, companies that do not pay wages, often simply change legal entities and recruit new people to the facility, leaving the previous employees without payments. At the moment, the companies SMT in Yekaterinburg, Garantstroy in Togliatti, as well as about 34 companies from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kaluga, Grozny, Nizhny Novgorod, Magadan and other cities are not paying salaries for a long time.

A Izvestiya's source in the market said that the problem lies in the fact that many facilities are handled by contractors and subcontractors who hire shift workers. "You address a claim to the customer, and he replies that he transfers money to all facilities in Russia on time. Just somewhere at the level of the next contractor-subcontractor money is lost," Demenko confirmed.

In the last months of 2025, Russians complained 60% more often about salary delays than a year earlier, says the general director of the job search and recruitment service GdeRabota.ru Ekaterina Agaeva. "46% of debtors are companies from mining and manufacturing. It is there that shift workers are most often employed," the expert noted.

At the same time, the number of people working on a rotational basis is growing in Russia. According to Agaeva, a total of 1.7 million Russians can work as shift workers, which is more than the number of teachers in schools. At the same time, only for the last month, companies published 85.2 thousand proposals for shift work, the expert concluded.

According to Rosstat, at the end of October 2025, overdue wage arrears reached 2.156 billion rubles. A year earlier, this amount was 729 million rubles.
