The US president once again threatened "very big consequences" for continuing the war.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned Russia of possible "big consequences" if it does not end the war against Ukraine.

In a press conference in the Oval Office on Monday, August 25, Trump said he would "intervene decisively" if an agreement to end hostilities is not reached within the next two weeks, CNN.

"We'll see what happens in the next week or two, and then I will intervene. If I have to be there, I'll be there and we'll either have an agreement or we won't," he said.

Trump also added that there is a "tremendous animosity" between the Russian dictator and the Ukrainian president. At the same time, he emphasized that he wants Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky to meet.

"There's a huge personal animosity between these two, and we're going to have to fix that. But I would like them to meet first. They want me to be there. Maybe I'll be there, maybe I won't. We'll see," the American president said.

Trump earlier said he had spoken to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin again after their conversation last Monday - and made it clear he was "disappointed" by Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine.

The American president also believes Putin is avoiding meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky because he doesn't like him.
