Leo XIV drew attention to the huge income gap between CEOs and their employees.
Pope Leo XIV has criticized American billionaire Ilon Musk and other executives of large corporations for their high salaries.
He said this in an interview with the Catholic publication Crux.
He said such incomes only deepen the inequality between top executives and workers, and become "examples of wealth that undermine the value of human life."
"Recently there was news that Ilon Musk could become the world's first trillionaire. What does that mean? If this is the only thing that still has value, we are in big trouble," the Pope said.
The Pope also drew attention to the huge income gap between CEOs and their employees. He noted that 60 years ago, CEOs could earn four to six times as much as employees, but now that difference is as high as 600 times.
The Pope said such a scale of economic inequality has a negative impact on society, causing a loss of "a higher understanding of the essence of human life" and the value of family and community.
