Britain's prime minister's decision is due to the need to pay $1 billion of taxpayer funds.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to refuse to participate in the "Peace Council" - an initiative of US President Donald Trump. About it writes Financial Times with reference to a British official.
The FT source said that Starmer's decision is due to the need to pay $1 billion of taxpayers' funds. The newspaper's interlocutor also noted that the British prime minister does not want to join the council because of the invitation of Russian representatives. However, the issue is still under consideration, he added.
"Peace Council" was originally developed to resolve conflicts in the Gaza Strip. However, Donald Trump is seeking to expand the organization's powers to address conflicts elsewhere in the world. As Axios wrote, 58 countries received an invitation to join the organization.
