The Security Service of Ukraine reports this in Telegram.

Security Service counterintelligence detained two agents of the Russian military intelligence service known as GRU. They were helping the enemy to establish the consequences from the Oreshnik strike on civilian infrastructure in Lviv region on the night of January 8-9, 2026.

The detention of enemy agents and the scheme of their work

The case files show that a 64-year-old resident of Mukachevo, who was remotely recruited by the enemy intelligence service, and his 22-year-old unemployed neighbor were engaged in additional reconnaissance of the shelling.

The law enforcers established that on the assignment of the GRU RF junior agent came from Transcarpathia to Lvivshchyna after the attack. He went around the locations in the area of rocket fire, took photos and recorded the coordinates on Google maps.

The man then passed the collected information to the "senior" agent, who stayed in Mukachevo and directly reported to the curator from the Russian special service.

The SBU detained both adjusters at the same time: one - at his place of residence in Mukachevo, and the other - "on the hot" in Lviv region, when he was conducting additional reconnaissance near the site of the enemy strike.

The goal of the occupiers and legal consequences for traitors

According to the agency, the enemy wanted to obtain information about the scale of destruction of Ukrainian facilities after the strike in order to use it in their information and psychological special operations and to plan new shelling in the region.

During the searches, electronic devices with evidence of work for the Russian special service were seized from the detainees. The SBU also intercepted conversations between one of the agents and their handler. These audios have been attached to the materials of criminal proceedings.

The SBU investigators informed the detainees of suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - high treason committed under martial law.

The attackers are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
