The tanker was detained in the Mediterranean Sea.
British Defense Secretary John Healey has confirmed that the country was involved in the French Navy's operation to intercept a Russian tanker in the Mediterranean Sea.
It was reported by Sky News.
Hillie said that Britain provided support in the form of tracking and monitoring the French operation to detain the under-sanctioned Russian tanker.
He noted that the high-speed patrol boat HMS Dagger had been involved, tracking the vessel as it passed through the Strait of Gibraltar.
"Together with our allies, we are stepping up our measures against 'shadow fleet' vessels to cut off the funding that is facilitating Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine," the defense minister said.
The Russian tanker is under UK and EU sanctions.
