Ukraine has ordered 18 advanced IRIS-T air defense systems from the German company Diehl Defense to strengthen the defense of its front lines. This was announced by the company's CEO Helmut Rauch, reports Le Monde.
He said Kiev already has nine such launchers. Rauch added that such an order aims to improve the protection of critical infrastructure and areas near the front.
What is known about the IRIS-T SLM (medium-range) and SLS (short-range)
The launchers are among the most advanced fixed air defense systems in Europe. According to Diehl Defense, Ukraine uses them to intercept Russian cruise missiles and drones, among them Iranian Shaheds.
In addition, German officials have repeatedly called IRIS-T one of the most effective Western systems Ukraine has. The missiles of this system are known for their high maneuverability and ability to hit targets both in approach and pursuit.
