Trump revealed the details.
U.S. President Donald Trump said that during a covert operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, the U.S. military used a new classified weapon he called Discombobulator - "disorientator".
The White House chief, in an interview with The Post, commented on the January 3 raid in Caracas. According to Trump, it was the "disorientator" weapon that played a key role in the operation, allowing U.S. forces to neutralize the Maduro regime's defense systems without U.S. casualties.
"Disorientator. I'm not allowed to talk about it," Trump said in the Oval Office, adding that he would gladly tell more if it were possible.
At the same time, he confirmed that when US helicopters entered the Venezuelan capital to arrest Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, secret weapons were indeed used.
The US president also claims that the Discombobulator completely disabled the Venezuelan forces' defensive equipment.
"They were never able to launch their missiles. They had Russian and Chinese missiles, but they couldn't launch any. We flew in, they pushed the buttons, but nothing worked," Trump said.
American journalists noted that the president's remarks came amid reports that the Biden administration had previously acquired pulsed energy weapons, which speculation suggested could be linked to the so-called "Havana syndrome."
Desorientator use: what witnesses say
In the meantime, eyewitnesses to the events in Caracas described strange symptoms in Maduro's guards. According to them, the fighters suddenly switched off their radar systems, after which numerous drones appeared over the positions, followed by eight helicopters with the US military.
One of Maduro's former guards said that at a certain point something resembling a powerful sound wave was applied. And then the military began bleeding.
"It was like a very intense sound wave. Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside," witness. All of us had nosebleeds. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to move. We couldn't even get up after that sonic weapon - or whatever it was," said one eyewitness.
