The ceremonial events were held in the "House of Free Belarus".
On Friday, the House of Free Belarus in Lviv honored the memory of Mikhail Zhiznevsky and Belarusian volunteers who died defending Ukraine from Russian aggression, Radye Svaboda reports.
The event was attended by Rada deputies, representatives of the Belarusian community and public figures.
The victims were honored with a minute of silence. The priest served the funeral service. A movie about Mikhail Zhiznevsky was shown. The deputies of Lviv Regional Council made speeches.
The "House of Free Belarus" now keeps a monument to Mikhail Zhiznevsky, which originally stood at the place of his death in Kiev. Here you can also see things, awards, letters of other fallen heroes.
Deputy Ekaterina Keno shared her memories of Mikhail's funeral: "We understood that there was a struggle for truth, for the will, for light. Thousands of people came to Mikhail Zhiznevsky's funeral. Then we realized that freedom cannot be stopped."
The representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Lviv region Taras Podvirny told what is being done to legalize the Belarusian volunteers: "We are working with them to eliminate legal obstacles to their stay in Ukraine. Last year we handed over 25 cases to the Interior Ministry, and now these issues are being discussed at the highest level."
Belarusian activists in Lviv proposed to erect a monument to Zhiznevsky in one of Lviv's public gardens. But in a recent interview with Svaboda, the city's mayor Andrei Sadovy said that the monument will not be erected yet:
"The idea is interesting, but during the war we suspended the installation of monuments. We honor those who gave their lives today in this war, we support families, we receive a lot of wounded, a lot of displaced people, this is our priority today. And when there will be victory, then we will talk. Everything has its time."
