The Man Accused Of Murdering Farion Was Sentenced To Life In Prison

More than two years later, the court handed down its verdict.
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv handed down a verdict to Vyacheslav Zinchenko, who was accused of murdering Ukrainian activist Iryna Farion. He was found guilty of the intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of her civic duty, committed on the grounds of ethnic intolerance, as well as of illegal possession of a firearm, and was sentenced to life in prison, according to New Voice.
In addition, the court ordered Zinchenko to pay five million hryvnias in compensation for emotional distress to Irina Farion’s daughter—Sofia Osoba.
During the sentencing, the judge noted that the defendant had been repeatedly offered the opportunity to speak during the court proceedings, but he refused because his position was not aligned with that of his defense attorneys.
On July 25, 2024, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, a suspect in the murder of former People’s Deputy from the “Svoboda” party, publicist and linguist Iryna Farion, who died in Lviv after being shot on July 19.
