The funds will be used to revive the economy.

On Thursday, October 1, Poland received nearly 8 billion euros as part of a reform and investment program funded by the EU to help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was reported by Polskie Radio.

This is already the fifth tranche of funds under the program. The European Commission was able to transfer the funds to Polish accounts after EU member states approved the payment a month ago.

“We’re kicking off October in a big way. Poland has just received 35 billion zlotys from the KPO (National Recovery Plan—Ed.)—for housing, railways, kindergartens, and oncology equipment,” said Jan Szyszko, Deputy Minister for Funds and Regional Policy .

According to the deputy minister, Poland is set to receive another 55 billion zlotys (more than 12.5 billion euros) by the end of the year.

The European Commission notes that the funds are to be allocated, in particular, toward the purchase of 88 new trams for Wrocław, Poznań, and Kraków.

According to the European Commission, Poland has already received 77% of all funds allocated to it under the National Recovery Plan. The total funding for Poland amounts to nearly 55 billion euros, of which 25 billion are non-repayable grants, and the remainder consists of soft loans.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU established the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), which finances reforms and investments by member states aimed at economic recovery and enhancing economic resilience. Funds are provided in the form of grants and soft loans. Poland has become one of the main beneficiaries of this program.
