Tensions over the Falkland Islands are escalating again.
Tensions between the United Kingdom and Argentina are escalating over the Falkland Islands—the risk of a new war breaking out is rising sharply.
This is reported by The Times.
Britain is preparing for war
Journalists noted that, for the first time in many years, the British military conducted exercises in which they rehearsed a scenario involving an amphibious operation to regain control of the archipelago.
This occurred following high-profile statements by Argentine President Javier Milei regarding his intention to bring the Falkland Islands back under his country’s control.
It is important to note that the exercises reenacted scenes from the 1982 war. The troops practiced conducting an amphibious landing, marching at night for a distance of about 32 kilometers, and carrying out combat missions over short distances in mountainous terrain.
The Conflict Between the United Kingdom and Argentina: A Historical Retrospective
The Falkland Islands are a remote archipelago in the South Atlantic that holds strategic importance due to its location and marine resources.
The territorial dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over these islands has been ongoing since the 19th century.
On April 2, 1982, Argentine troops landed on the islands and took control of the capital, Stanley. The British garrison surrendered.
However, as early as June 14 of that same year, Argentine forces capitulated, and the United Kingdom regained control of the archipelago.
